Everything you need to know about selling a forest
Selling a forest is not an easy process. Those who want to sell a forest must first find out if all the owners agree to it, because most often forest plots are owned by several people who own this property by inheritance.
To make the sale process smoother, where a forest plot has several owners, it may be useful to appoint one authorised representative. This can simplify communication with the National Land Service (NŽT) and the notary.
When privately owned forestry land is sold, procedures established by the NŽT apply. The seller is issued a certificate relating to the sale of privately owned forestry land, while in cases provided for by law the buyer must obtain NŽT consent to acquire the property. The applicable time limits are determined in accordance with the current NŽT procedure.
The value of a forest depends on a number of factors, including its forest group and subgroup, the characteristics of the land and forest stand, and previous felling.
Forests in Lithuania are divided into different groups according to their primary function, including:
- strict reserve forests;
- special-purpose forests;
- protective forests;
- commercial forests.
